Outdoor wireless internet router/repeater
Some of you may be aware that I live in a rather rural area and have a very limited list of available ISP. I even posted a thread warning about the dangers of going with satellite internet (I did not give much detail but if anyone is still curious I can supply more detailed information at a later time). Well after two years we are finally free of our contract and are looking for a new service. My dad is looking into getting Verizon's mobile hotspot. I have been told that although they are indeed fast, they have 5GB download limit a month (not exactly the ideal thing for a family that desires to download/upload large files). I have seen a few outdoor routers that are designed to connect to nearby routers. I have calculated the distance from my house to several locations that offer free internet (i.e hotels, restaurants, and fast food restaurants) to be approximately 1.2 - 1.5 miles with trees as the only real obstruction. Assuming I place such a device on a tower 60 feet off the ground, do I have a high probability of connecting to said locations? Would such a device be capable of streaming and/or online gaming? What are some appropriate devices/alternative solutions I should look into? Any advice you guys can offer would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!
