In my point of view, drinking alcohol in moderation is okay: Getting drunk, however, is not. I've never drank anything that contains alcohol (I'm too young for that), and probably never will, just to be safe... Unlike many other kids of my age. Can somebody tell me what's so fun about getting drunk and making a total idiot out of yourself? I've never understood that.
About alcohol getting banned.. That happened here in Finland, too. But as you can guess, that didn't end too well, either. Corruption, smuggling, black market, the police was really busy until the ban was lifted.. And about smuggling, there often was this "little" problem with the drinks: It's called methanol. And those who don't know, even a tiny bit of methanol can blind or even kill you. You wouldn't want to drink that, right?
And what makes the drinks we call "alcohol", well, alcoholic? Ethanol. The problem with those two (methanol & ethanol) is that they are very hard to tell apart from each other..
About alcoholism in general: If you fall into that pit, get help for goodness' sake! It's nothing but a slow suicide, like smoking.
