To put the following simple, YES!
Lets look at how both networks work.
- Wired Network -
With a Home Network that is ran completely with cat5, cat6 cable, only computers that are hooked directly into the modem/router/switch, are able to access the internet and other computers on the home network. So for someone to access your home network they will ether have to
1. Directly hook their computer up to your modem/router/switch
or
2. Hack into your Home Network via the Internet.
( )
Wired networks since they are hooked up directly into the modem/router/switch, get a more stable internet connection.
- Wireless Network -
A Wireless network is a network that doesn't use lan cords *Patch Cords* to connect the computers together. Its a wire LESS network that allows the users the freedom of moving his computer anywhere he wants with out the worry have danging a cat5/6 cable around with him. The only thing I can think of that Wireless really helps are Laptops.
Now with a Wireless network you don't have security of knowing that only the people hooked into my modem/router/switch are the only people who can (for sure) access my home network and gain internet access.
Since it is a Wireless network, people who have Wireless network cards can access your home network as well. Which means that can do a lot more damage to you then if they were trying to gain access via the internet, or at least they would have less trouble doing so.
With a Wireless network there a few ways people can gain access to your home network
1. Connect to the Wireless signal your Router/Modem is giving out inputing the correct password and so fourth.
2. Hack into your Home Network via the Internet.
2. Hack into your Home Network via the Wireless signal your Router/Modem is giving out and cracking or bruteforcing the password to gain access to not only your Router/Modem, but every computer on your network as well.
Now the good thing is Wireless routers/modems do have security passwords and encryptions you can enable on them.
The bad thing is that any password could be bruteforced / cracked. So your really don't know if someone close to you is a expert computer hacker and has been using your internet access to do some illegal things.
