Building my Dream Machine - Won't be on Friday!
Well for the past seven years, I've been using the same computer I built back in 2000. Now the video card, sound card, monitor, power supply have all been upgraded. The main heart of my machine hasn't which means I'm still running a AMD Athlon 1800 XP+ with 1.5 gigabytes in ram.
Tuesday while purchasing a Laptop for my college classes. Frys Electronics a store which I enjoyed mostly for their Motherboard + CPU combo deals. Was having a sale on and AMD Athlon 64x2 6000+ for only $169.99 which was going to expire on Wednesday. So naturally since I was paying for my Laptop with college funds (Pel Grant), I decided that instead of spending the money on a PSP and a few games (MHX and MPU). I thought it would be better to upgrade my seven year old motherboard and cpu to something that is top of the line. Friday morning I'll getting the rest of the parts and building my new computer, so I won't be on all that day.
- Old Specs -
- New Specs - as of Friday
For those who may not know how big of an upgrade this is, allow me to explain the difference between my old CPU and my new one.
The AMD Athlon 1800 XP+ runs off a 32 bit architecture. The AMD Athlon 64x2 6000+ runs off a 64 bit architecture, hint: thats why its called an AMD Athlon 64. So if I were to compare an AMD Athlon 1800 XP+ to a AMD Athlon 64 1800+, the AMD Athlon 64 would run loops around the normal AMD Athlon. So now also put in the factor that my old CPU was an 1800+ and my new CPU in an 6000+ duel core.
Can we say that I won't need to be upgrading my Computer for the next seven or ten years
Anyway, here are some pictures of the parts I have so far.
