I think the fire lord was a complete Idiot to think he could wipe out a group of benders, because the avatar will only create more if he has children in that part of the element cycle.
This makes me think, Is it possible for a person to inherit all of the bending powers?

What if those swamp benders and sand benders started a war to take over the world. The Avatar isn't known to those skills, even Toph couldn't bend sand. Dangerous...
And they'd form a new skill, mud bending
