Why is it important that you see your opponents name? The way I see it, it is not important to know the name of your opponent unless you plan to hunt him down and bash him for being a noob.
While no names for play with anyone do make it so that you can't see another persons name, it dose not harm the actually match you'll be fighting your opponents in.
Taunts I feel will be extremely annoying in friend battles and I'll explain why. When you taunt, a large chat bubble will appear above your head. In the bubble, your custom taunt will be displayed. The problem with this is that you can be standing below and platform and use your taunt. The taunt will then cover up the platform and most of the player that stands on it. It can be alloying because you could use it to prevent a player some seeing another players attack like in team battles. If you don't trust me about the size of the bubbles, simply go to the brawl website and look for yourself to see how big they are. This is why I am glad they didn't allow it in random battles. Also, you could advertise your website in your taunt bubble. A simple web address could easily be inputted into the taunt bubble. Also, no max character limit has been announced to my knowledge, so you could have several things you could say in it.
Just a heads up, anyone who has anything inappropriate in their chat taunt bubble or as their name will be removed from my friends list as well as never added back again. I'm doing this because I didn't get this game to have inappropriate things displayed on my TV.
