For me, an amv must have:
feelings/emotion, synchronization/rate/rhythm, and a history original...

How is for you?

I don't know really how must be an amv..

Well after a few minutes of trying to figure out what you said. I think I can some it up to

"What is it that makes a good AMV for you?"

I would have to agree with everything you said. The things I enjoy the most from an AMV are things like "Emotions, Synchronization, Beat, Rhythm, Originality. Those are also things that I like to stick into my own creations.

Well, I believe that you definitely need good sync, a good song (that fits your theme of course), and originality.

In my opinion, originality is hard to come by this day and age. That's why when I make amv's...I use those funky songs no one (or barely anyone) knows about and I use such a diverse mix of anime and games, like Boktai. I like to keep the people guessing on how the amv will turn out.

I mean....everyone has made an amv using a Linkin Park song...or something as similar before. In my last like 4 projects....I used songs that I know no one has heard, or might of heard like once or twice.

Also...I like to make amv's with "Funky" songs because IMO, the songs are catchy and will keep you listening throughout the whole amv. They may be relatively short, but I rather have a short, intense amv, then have a long 4 minute amv...slapped with a boring part here and there (If you get what I mean by that anyway).

And that is what makes a good amv for me.

for me i'd say excitement. for what good is an amv if it's boring :D. of course there are different ways different amvs can excite me lol.

but yea my favorites are probably fun/upbeat/dance-ish kinds with action soon following :D.

of course it needs to be well synced too but thats only one part of it :P
If anyone does notice this then know I'll be back. Soon or later with a Surprise :).

well i don't have the experience that you guys have but i like my amv's to have a little rhythm, sync, a little excitment and hopefully a little originality. i often look to other amvs to see what has been used before, what hasn't been used in awhile and good efect to use and how to make those effects. i think a amv should be well rounded in all areas though. and should offer insiration to the new and old amv makers.

hmm... I'm no AMV maker myself, but I've seen tons of good AMVs and some bad AMVs and some that I stopped liking so much after a while

what I think makes a good AMV is it's originality, it's sync, the use of effects, and its rhythm... but most importantly I think that my favorite ones are those that tug on my emotions when I watch them... that's why my interest in dance AMVs dwindle slowly, because although the use of effects and transitions is pleasing to the eye, there is no story or emotion behind the piece, and my interest in dramatic/romance/action/comedy AMVs stays the same, or grows over time.

anyway, I'm done talking ya'll to death. those are my thoughts.

that's another thing i forgot: quality. you are so right. if your look at a lot of the really OLD amv's the quality is some times pretty bad. also i was thinking last night that a very good way to see if your amv's is good is to get a relative intrested and have them watch your's and compare it to other peoples. my cousin gave me an idea for an amv that i probably wouldn't have tought of till i was finished. and i agree with grandbahamut with the fact that an amv sometimes need to be more emotional. we don't get very many of those. for instance i really like the "how to save a life" amv but it is not very exciting. i can relate to the music in the amv thus i like it better.
