Baten Kaitos

Oh yeah if you think the Tales of Series was unknown for most of the members, here is a new one XD. First I must say that I don´t know what the name means, it seems is something in Greek (not sure about that >.>). Anyway, "what is Baten Kaitos?", you may ask, well its a RPG for the Nintendo GC developed by Namco with Monolith Studios (a new company that drove my attention XD).
Good Points of the games (yes there are 2 games):
- Excelent (if not perfect) graphics, I mean you will be astonished by the background work and the sorruondings in general, this game was fighting against Metroid Prime 2: Echoes for the price of "best graphic game of the year".
- Original gameplay (and I think this is the reason why a lot of people don´t know this game >.>), yes it uses a card based battle system, but its very dinamic and funny (at least in the second game), you use cards to attack, to do special attacks, to defend, to cure, to do almost everything in the battles, also you can use them outside the battles.
- A great story with a lot of Twist plots, and I mean it, later in the summary of the games I will post the story
- The bests soundtracks that Mr. Motoi Sakuraba can offer, really if you though Tales of Symphonia had a good Soundtrack, you will never stop listening to the music here.
Summary of the games:
1) Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and The Lost Ocean:
This one was released in 2004, 2 months after Tales of Symphonia (I was still playing Symphonia when I bought it XD), the story takes place in a world in which the continents were people live are floating in the sky (WTF!?), yes this was thanks to a war that happened 1000 years ago, it was called the "War of the Gods", in which Malpercio, the god of old, turned against the world with the help of the Dark Brethren, knowing that the world will surely be destroyed and so the ocean (that was very important for the world) be swollowed by Malpercio, the Children of the Earth used their strong magic to seal away the evil god in 5 End Magnus (the cards you use in the game are called magnus). But the Earth was polluted by the evil power, so the Children of the Earth decided to elevate the earth that wasn´t polluted to the sky. 1000 years have passed since then and you take the role of a Guardian Spirit that lives inside the body of Kalas (the main character). You will find that Kalas is kind of the best original character, since its not the tipical character that wants to save the world and bla bla, he is selfish, arrogant and with a very bad mooth XD, but as you are the guardian spirit of him, you take the right decisions for him
. Anyway Kalas was seeking revenge for the death of his grandfather and brother by the hands of Giacomo, in his search for power he will find Xelha, who is searching for this End Magnus to dispose of them, since Geldoblame (evil emperor of the Alfard empire) wants the power of the wicked god to conquer the world. In the game you will find the secrets of the evil god, who is really kalas and other characters you will find, why Geldoblam wants the evil god back, and finnaly where is the ocean that was long lost 1000 years ago. Definitely a great game that started a story that can have more than one game for sure, only bad points, and a really bad one, is the voice acting, it surelly sucked and I am a fan of the game XD, also the gameplay was a little slow but it was enjoyable nontheless .

2) Baten Kaitos 2: The First Wings and The Heir of God (Baten Kaitos Origins):
And so the game got its fans that were claiming for more (me too XD) and with corrections of the mistakes made in the first game. Therefore Baten Kaitos Origins was born and released in September 25th of 2006, but this isn´t a sequel of the first one, nope this one happens 20 years before the first, were Kalas or Xelha haven´t yet born, so the story takes place in the same world in the sky, the legend is the same, here you are a Guardian Spirit, but you live int eh Heart of a young man name Sagi, he works as an assasin for the Alfard Empire´s Dark service, the game starts when Sagi is asigned to kill the actual emperor of the empire (Emperor Olgan), he will have the help of a Doll (a very cool one) named Guillo, they are in the middle of a fight for the throne and they get caught as guiltys of the assasination, but they weren´t the ones that kill the emperor (someone else did this first), in their escape they will meet a young woman named Milliarde (Milly for friends :p), the 3 of them will be working for a candidate to the throne of the Empire to investigate the stramge monsters that are crawling in the world (the ones called Malpercio´s afterlings). In this game you will dicover what really happened in the War of the Gods a 1000 years ago, why malpercio turned out against the world, an many other misteries that were unanswered in the first game, like why Geldoblame ended as emperor if he wasn´t a candidate for the throne?. The gameplay was remodeled, it is still a card based gameplay, but this time is so much easy, fun and dinamic that you will soon forget that you are using cards. The voice acting was improved and holy god this was marvelous, the voice acting of Guillo and Milly is excelent. The graphics are more amazing than the first one, and Motoi Sakuraba made again the sound tracks of the second and very well made sound tracks too. Note that you don´t need to play the first one to understand the second.
Well I wrote a lot XD, I´m not expecting you to know this game, in fact is very unknown, but I loved it, I always search for new origanal RPGs and this one is one of the best I have played. Just to let you know RPGs fan another possibility if you are searching for a good RPG to play if you are not getting the Wii anytime soon XD.

Hope that I get anyone interested in the game n.ñ, since I really expect a 3rd game, too bad that Namco hasn´t said anything yet, still there is one in the making for DS, lets wait to see that
