A remake is simply that. Something that has been remade and improved on.
Maverick Hunter X is not a Parallel Universe, nor is Megaman Powered Up.
they are simply remakes of older games you can't get anymore.
From what I know Inafune planned on remaking all of the X series games to give more back information on the story and to fix some plot holes left behind since X6, but since the PSP is not the hottest selling handheld, and not alot of people have one, MHX didn't sell like Capcom hoped it would. And now there is a slim chance that we will see a IHX2 anytime soon.
Also keep in mind, that when you have a chance to remake one of your older projects, you tend to give it more detail and try to improve it in anyway you can.
Also I don't know if you now this, but in Japan, Capcom has released several books explaining the back story to their games.
one example of this is the "Zero Official Complete Works" book that is the first Back Story book to come to the US.
Yes, X in 20XX and 200X stands for a unknown variable (1 - 9)
So when we see 200X AD, we have to guess it took place sometime between 2000 AD - 2009 AD. And with 20XX we have to assume it took place between 2010 AD - 2099 AD.
The X Series gives us clues about when events took place.
In the intro to Megaman X Dr.Light says that it would take 30 years to test X's systems before it would be safe to let him out. and his note was datad "September 18, 20XX". Well we know that the X series took place during 21XX AD (a hundred years after the classic series) so Dr.Light had to have wrote his note sometime between 2080 AD and - 2099 AD because that gives a 30 year gap between when he was put into the pod and when he was released.
To sum a LONG LONG story short.
The Rockman Series only has two "Universe" / "Timelines"
The first is the Classic Rockman Series
Classic > X > Zero > ZX > Dash
and the Second is the EXE Series
EXE > Ryuusei
also you should know that with X4, X5, X6, X7, and X8, they all have different endings depending on who you beat the game with.
X4 Ending
X: X ponders whether he will turn Maverick.
Zero: Zero wondering how many Reploids he will end up destroying before this whole thing is over
X5 Ending
X: Zero is Destroyed, and X is rebuilt by Dr.Light (Capsule form) and X starts to Search for Zero. <- Ending leading to X6
Zero: Zero and X get Destroyed
Zero Gone Maverick: Zero is Destroyed, and X is rebuilt by Dr.Light (Capsule form) and X has no memory of Zero.
X6 Ending
X: Sigma is Defeated and Gate is Saved
Zero: Zero puts himself into a deep sleep with the help of a unknown scientist.
X7 Ending
X: X refuses to train Axl as a Hunter
Zero: Zero has a dream of X aiming at him saying “Eliminate the Mavericks”
Axl: Axl wants to become a Maverick Hunter
and the endings are like this for the rest of the games.
X1, X2, and X3 are the only ones with a solid ending
X1 Ending
The war has ended for now and peace has been restored. But those who
sacrificed themselves for the victory will never return.
Exhausted, X gazes at the destruction he helped cause and wonders why he
chose to fight. Was there another way?
Standing on the cliff, the answers seem to escape him. He only knows that
he'll fight the Mavericks again before he finds his answer.
How long will he keep on fighting? How long will his pain last?
Maybe only the X-Buster on his hand knows for sure.....
X2 Ending
Joined by his friend Zero, Mega Man X gazes out over the sea.
Sigma has once again been destroyed, but X wonders if the fighting will
truly end.
Was Dr Light's dream of a world in which reploids and humans lived together
in peace merely a dream?
The price of peace is often high, X thinks to himself.
Who or what must be sacrificed for it to become a reality?
And when the time comes, will he be able to do it?
The future holds the answers or...
X3 Ending
X has crushed Sigma's plan once again. But many questions still occupy
his mind......
"Why must humans fight against Reploids...?"
"And, why must Reploids fight against each other..."
As X stares at the burning remnants of Doppler's lab, his body
trembles from an unknown sorrow.
"What does fate have in store for me?" he wonders.
He can only hope that someday Dr Light's plan for him will finally be
revealed.
Unknown to X, his destiny has already been decided.
To save mankind, he must destroy Zero.
But only time will tell, when and why.....
